A north Idaho jury will determine if a man convicted of killing a Coeur d’Alene police officer should receive a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.

The jury found 29-year-old Jonathan Renfro guilty of first-degree murder last week for the May 2015 killing of police Sergeant Greg Moore.  He was also found guilty of robbery, removing a firearm from a police officer, and concealment of evidence.

The jury then this week agreed with prosecutors on three of the four aggravating factors that showed Renfro has the inclination to commit murder, which would make him a continuing threat to society.

Moore was killed while on a routine patrol where he encountered Renfro.  Prosecutors previously said the convicted felon was high on methamphetamine and ambushed Moore.  He then took Moore’s firearm and fled.

The last phase of the trial begins next week.  (AP, Spokesman-Review)
