The Idaho Department of Fish and Game seeks the public’s help in the investigation of a poached bull elk in the Clearwater Region.
On October 10th, opening day of the Unit 14 elk season, witnesses reported hearing shooting in a remote area below Dairy Mountain in the Slate Creek Drainage. They later walked into the area and found a large 5 point bull elk, which was gutted, and evidence shows it was initially tagged. It appears the violator returned at a later date to only retrieve his tag, abandoning the entire bull and leaving it to rot.
Conservation Officers investigating the scene found several clues left by the violator, including a shirt that has a unique camo pattern – he was also carrying a pistol.
Officers are asking if anyone remembers a person wearing this unique camo pattern t-shirt the suspect left at the scene. The suspect would also have had a fair amount of blood on their cloths and no meat or antlers. Anyone with information is asked to call Fish and Game’s Clearwater Region Office in Lewiston at 208-799-5010, or the Citizens Against Poaching hotline at 800-632-5999. (IDFG)
