The main paperboard building at Clearwater Paper in Lewiston was evacuated as a precaution Wednesday morning following the sounding of a chemical alarm.

No injuries were reported and all employees and contractors on site were accounted for and returned to work.

The alarm sounded at about 8:50 A.M.

Officials say the area where the incident happened was being thoroughly cleaned and aired out prior to the arrival of a 6pm shift change.

The machines were not running at the time of the alarm because the plant is doing an extended round of annual maintenance in which a new pulp digester will be installed. (Lewiston Tribune)
