An Orofino woman has pleaded not guilty in connection with the May 22nd shooting death of another woman.

31-year-old Jessica Colpitts made an appearance in 2nd District Court Tuesday where she faces a first-degree murder charge in the slaying of Samantha Fignani.   A scheduling conference was set for Aug. 15 to appoint a timetable for hearing dates and a trial.

During a preliminary hearing July 17th, a witness testified that Colpitts was angry with Fignani, who had recently become involved with Colpitts’ exboyfriend.  One witness testified about driving Colpitts to Fignani’s home where Colpitts knocked at the door and then allegedly shot Fignani with a .410-gauge shotgun.  Clearwater County Prosecutor Clayne Tyler says the evidence shows that Colpitts intended to exact revenge on Fignani and was lying in wait to attack her.

Colpitts is being held in the Clearwater County Jail on a $500,000 bond.  (Lewiston Tribune)
