An Idaho legislative panel has advanced a proposal to exempt active military members from the requirement that they be Gem State residents in order to carry a concealed gun without a permit inside city limits.

The bill by Republican Representative Don Cheatham, of Post Falls, cleared the House State Affairs Committee on Thursday.

The measure was approved following a failed attempt to amend it to authorize any American citizen to carry a concealed gun inside city limits without a permit.

The original bill now heads to the full House for consideration.  (Spokesman-Review)
